As ever, there will be a race against time to make alterations to squads and ensure that all players are fit and ready to shine as various fantasy leagues approach their crunch point of the season.

Erling Haaland and Declan Rice were both doubts for last gameweek’s set of midweek fixtures, but both players were passed fit to start as Arsenal won at Brighton while Manchester City lost ground in the title race with a draw at home to Nottingham Forest.

Both players are expected to be available for selection by fantasy managers once again but several other key players around the division remain a doubt ahead of Saturday’s deadline.

Arsenal duo amongst notable FPL absentees ahead of the weekend

Leandro Trossard: The Arsenal winger has a fresh injury concern which saw him miss out on the Gunners’ trip to Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League in midweek. He was forced off in the first half of their FA Cup victory at Mansfield and Arteta confirmed that he had not proven his fitness ahead of midweek, with his availability on Saturday evening still unconfirmed as the league leaders host Everton.

Martin Odegaard: Also a doubt for the match is Arsenal captain Odegaard, who has missed the last four matches with a knee issue and has not started since 25 January. The Norwegian only has 1.6% ownership at present, with many FPL managers clocking onto his limited game-time due to multiple recent injury concerns.

Harry Wilson: One of the most sought-after players in the game in recent months, Fulham star Wilson missed the Cottagers’ recent 1-0 home defeats to West Ham United in the league and Southampton in the FA Cup due to an ankle injury.

But he should be available to face Nottingham Forest on Sunday – the 28-year-old told BBC Sport Wales: "I'm good. I had a bit of a knock after the Spurs game, which took a week or so to go, but I'm back training now, so I'm hoping I'll be good to go for Sunday and definitely good to go for the Wales games."

West Ham and Spurs stars among further injury concerns

Crysencio Summerville: West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo confirmed that Summerville, so often the Hammers’ match-winner in recent weeks, will not be available for their clash with Manchester City this weekend due to a calf issue. It is believed that he will miss at least the next couple of matches, which is one to look out for if he is in your FPL team.

Kaoru Mitoma: While he has not quite hit the heights of previous seasons, Mitoma remains a player who can light up the Premier League on his day. He was withdrawn at half-time against Arsenal with an ankle issue, but boss Hurzeler has confirmed there was “no injury” and it is just a question of whether Mitoma can “handle the pain” ahead of Saturday’s trip to Sunderland.

Estevao: The Brazilian has missed the last five matches with a hamstring injury but will hope to be back for Saturday’s clash with Newcastle, after Rosenior revealed he was back in training but the FA Cup clash with Wrexham came “too soon”. Jamie Gittens will also aim to return after spending six weeks on the side-lines.

Alisson: The Liverpool goalkeeper missed out in midweek as the Reds lost at Galatasaray. Arne Slot revealed that he is “hopeful” Alisson returns to face Spurs on Sunday.

Cristian Romero and Joao Palhinha: The two Tottenham stars clashed heads in the latter stages of Champions League defeat at Atletico Madrid and both players had to leave the field of play as a result. If they both suffered concussion as feared, protocol will ensure that neither player are available to play at Anfield on Sunday – plunging Spurs yet deeper into injury crisis at this critical time of the season.
