Aston Villa could snatch PL rival's unsettled forward as £39m gem 'destined' to join Newcastle United

The latest Premier League transfer news including Man City, Aston Villa and Newcastle

Gameweek 36 of the Premier League isn't done yet - the action continues this very evening, as Manchester City take on Crystal Palace at the Etihad Stadium. The Citizens can move to within two points of league leaders Arsenal if they win their game in hand, but with just two matches to go after that, their hopes of winning the title are fading fast.

The Gunners face already relegated Burnley next, who have simply nothing to play for but pride. They then round things off against a Crystal Palace side whose eggs will be piled into the Europa Conference League basket, with their appearance in the final against Rayo Vallecano taking place just three days later.

While nothing is a given, it's now hard not to see Arsenal winning their first Premier League title since 2003/04. In the meantime, the rumour mill has been picking up speed, and we've rounded up the latest transfer stories involving Premier League clubs:

First thing’s first, let’s meander down to the Etihad Stadium, where Manchester City are “closely monitoring” Roma defender Wesley. That’s according to Caught Offside, who say that Real Madrid, Barcelona, Newcastle, Arsenal and indeed Spurs are also enamoured with the 22-year-old, who only joined the Serie A side in a £22m move from Flamengo last July.

The report goes on to list the player’s ‘market value’ and the various reasons why City and others would like to sign him, but there’s not much more in terms of concrete information suggesting the club actually want to sign him. Reference is, however, made to the lengthy contract the player is currently on - a factor that would allow Roma to demand a hefty fee.

The 3AM Verdict: This is a real classic of the Caught Offside transfer rumour genre - pick a player who’s having a good season, list a load of big clubs who are apparently keen on him, then leave it at that. Sure, City could arguably do with adding some depth on the right side of their defence, but for now, we’re not sold on this one at all.

Aston Villa could relaunch Marmoush move

Let’s stay in Manchester a while longer, as rumours continue to swirl regarding the future of Egyptian gem Omar Marmoush. Football Insider reckon that Aston Villa, who were heavily linked with the forward back in the last transfer window, will try their luck in attempting to sign him again this summer, with a fee close to the £59m City paid for him said to potentially be enough to seal the deal.

City are said to want to hold on to the 27-year-old, who joined the club back in January 2025, but may have to let him go should he decide to leave in the search of regular playing time. The story notes that Villa will be looking to enhance their attacking options ahead of Champions League football next season, but concedes that it’s unclear where exactly he sits on their summer transfer priority list.

The 3AM Verdict: It’s rather an odd transfer story, to be honest. Aston Villa’s actual interest seems uncertain, as does City’s stance on whether they’d actually sell him. Unai Emery will need at least one, if not two left wingers this summer, and Marmoush has the technical abilities to thrive in his high octane system. Theoretically, this deal makes a great deal of sense. Whether it actually comes to pass is anyone’s guess.

Monaco gem ‘destined’ to join Newcastle United

Finally, it’s over to St. James’ Park, where transfer rumours mongers and apparent soothsayers Team Talk appear to have had a psychic vision: it is Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara’s “destiny” to join Newcastle United this summer. They contend that no less than seven other Premier League clubs are after him, but it is the Magpies who will win the race.

It’s claimed that Newcastle have put in the hard yards, making “regular trips to France” (nice work if you can get it) to see the £39m-rated gem in action. Interestingly, the report notes that the club want to sign him to play alongside Sandro Tonali, rather than bringing him in to replace the Italy international. It’s also said that the chances of him joining a Premier League club this summer are high.

The 3AM Verdict: Camara is a quality midfielder, and is expected to be the subject of even more interest once Senegal’s campaign in the World Cup gets underway next month. He could fit very nicely into Eddie Howe’s midfield, but if he really does have half the Premier League after him, a move could be a tricky sell with others able to offer both European football and presumably a meatier pay packet.
