The blockbuster Chelsea and PSG transfer swap deal that could see Blues become genuine title contenders
A memorable summer for Chelsea may not be done just yet
Paris Saint-Germain will be tired of seeing the face of Chelsea lately. After an otherwise-flawless 2025 from Luis Enrique’s Parisian side, Enzo Maresca’s Blues turned up at the Club World Cup final intent on upsetting the odds.
A 3-0 victory in the final inspired by Cole Palmer followed and meant that Chelsea were crowned inaugural winners of the new competition and blocked PSG from obtaining a clean trophy sweep. Chelsea, therefore, were crowned champions of the world.
The Blues have enjoyed a stellar summer off the pitch, too, as the likes of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro have signed to bolster Maresca’s strike force while huge sums of money have been made on the sales of Noni Madueke and Joao Felix. A minor fine from UEFA aside, everything is going well from a financial standpoint too. Chelsea could soon return to negotiate with PSG in an attempt to push through a game-changing final transfer of the summer.
Chelsea and PSG swap deal could shock the football world
Chelsea have been known to be admirers of PSG and Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who was outstanding as his side were crowned winners of the Champions League for the first time. The 26-year-old gained a particular affinity for thwarting English sides as he put in show-stopping performances against the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal on the way to the final.
Despite these strong showings, Donnarumma continues to be linked with a move away as PSG reportedly target Lille’s Lucas Chevalier as their long-term goalkeeper. Manchester United have been strongly linked, while Chelsea could reignite their own interest in hope of landing a solution to their goalkeeping problem.
A swap deal involving Christopher Nkunku, who PSG are said to have held a long-standing appreciation for amidst previous transfer links, could help sway negotiations in the Blues’ favour as Donnarumma decides where his potential next destination should be.
Donnarumma and Nkunku swap deal could work out for all parties
This could be a case where both sides walk away from the negotiation happy. Chelsea would be getting the world-class goalkeeper they crave to potentially complete a side ready to challenge for the Premier League title.
Meanwhile PSG would feel at ease to have got Donnarumma off the books and put an end to the speculation. Furthermore, the addition of former academy graduate Nkunku, who scored 11 goals in 78 appearances for the first-team as a young player, would offer the European champions increased depth in attacking areas.
Nkunku has struggled for minutes and consistency since arriving at Chelsea, with seven of his 18 goals in all competitions across two seasons coming in last year’s UEFA Conference League run. Just six Premier League goals have indicated that he has not adapted to life in England as he would have hoped. But he previously showed his goal-scoring capabilities with 58 goals in his final two seasons for RB Leipzig and will hope to return to that kind of goal-scoring form back where it all started.
Both players are believed to be valued at around £35 million by their respective clubs, meaning this could be a straight swap deal. Both sides get a player off the books and resolve an unwanted situation, while bringing in a new face who could make an impact on their squad. It may look unlikely, but there’s a chance this one works out.
