Chelsea's blockbuster £330m transfer window predicted with Inter, Newcastle, Rangers and Monaco deals

Football Manager 2024 predicts how Chelsea's summer transfer window could play out - with some unusual deals set to happen.

It has already been a hectic summer transfer window for Chelsea as new head coach Enzo Maresca gets his feet under the table at Stamford Bridge.

As it stands, the Blues have brought in around £85m from the sales of Ian Maatsen, Lewis Hall and Omari Hutchinson and Thiago Silva and Hakim Ziyech’s wages are off the bill after they left the club following the end of their contracts. Far from resting on their laurels, Chelsea have continued to spend after Barcelona youngster Marc Guiu, Leicester City midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Aston Villa academy product Omari Kellyman and Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo all arrived.

But what further business could be conducted ahead of Maresca’s first season in charge? We fire up Football Manager 2024 to see how the world’s most popular managerial simulation believes the remainder of the window will play out at Stamford Bridge.

Goalkeepers

There was little change for Marseca in terms of his goalkeeping ranks as Kepa rejected a move back to Spain with Valencia and he will remain at Stamford Bridge to compete for a place with Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic. There was one departure as Gabriel Slonina joined MLS outfit Atlanta United in a £3m deal.

Maresca’s goalkeeping options: Robert Sanchez, Djordje Petrovic, Kepa Arrizabalaga

Defenders

First and foremost, it’s probably easier to start with the list of defenders leaving Stamford Bridge. The only cash sale saw academy graduate Trevoh Chalobah joined Serie A giants Juventus in a £20m move but there were loan moves away from the club for the likes of Alfie Gilchrist and Axel Disasi and they prepare to spend the season with Luton Town and Lyon respectively. There was one new face at the back for Maresca and it feels like a significant addition as the Italian won the race to sign Turkish international Ferdi Kadioglu from Fenerbahce. A £35m agreement was enough to see off competition from Inter, Real Betis, Newcastle, Spurs, Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen.

Maresca’s defensive options: Levi Colwill, Benoit Badiashile, Wesley Fofana, Tosin Adarabioyo, Ben Chilwell, Malo Gusto, Marc Cucurella, Ferdi Kadioglu

Midfielders

Once again we will focus on the departures in the middle of the pitch and they are dominated by captain Conor Gallagher’s £35m move to Premier League rivals Newcastle United. However, the England star was not the only midfielder to leave the Blues as Cesare Casadei joined Inter in a season-long loan and Carney Chukwuemeka moved to Bologna in a similar deal. Maresca went for quality over quantity with new addition as Monaco’s Mohamed Camara was the only new face to arrive in midfielder after Chelsea agreed a £47m move for the Mali international.

Maresca’s midfield options: Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, Lesley Ugochukwu, Enzo Fernandez, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Mohamed Camara

First and foremost, there were no new arrivals in the final third apart from Omari Kellyman and Marc Guiu, who we placed into the Blues squad with the help of the in-game editor. There were high profile exits though as Romelu Lukaku and Raheem Sterling joined Marseille and Al Nassr for a combined £55m and David Datro Fofana (Hull City), Deivid Washington (Udinese) and Armando Broja (Rangers) all agreed to spend the new season away from Stamford Bridge.
