The £75m dream signing who can fire up Chelsea and make club instant top four contenders again

With barely three weeks left until the transfer window closes, the Chelsea squad is urgently in need of a top-level striker.

Chelsea have signed nine players this season and will add Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion to the squad in the coming days. The idea is to beat the curve and get Chelsea far ahead, so when the rest are spending millions of pounds to secure the next big, Chelsea will already be that big thing.

The new owners have made it clear from the first day they took over that they would change the wage structure of the club, and they have. They have reduced the wage structure, and Chelsea are not even in the top five of the teams paying the highest wages in the Premier League.

They also set out to reduce the age of the squad, and last summer they ensured they let go of as many as 11 first-team players, including the likes of esteemed veterans N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic, among others. The decision was a tough one but necessary to get this team to the right age and ensure the value of players was increased.

This goal has also been achieved, and the third phase was to attract some of the best young players in the world. Chelsea have brought in some decent players. Cole Palmer - who scored in the Euro 2024 final earlier this summer - is easily the best player in his age group, and there is a feeling that he will get even better as the years go by.

He’s gone from never scoring in the Premier League to outscoring everyone but Erling Haaland. You’d have to go back to the 2010 season to see when a Chelsea player last scored 22 Premier League goals; not even the great Diego Costa, the club’s best striker since Didier Drogba, did that.

However, the team is now in need of a world-class finisher, and none at this stage makes more sense than Newcastle’s top scorer, Alexandre Isak. A fee of around £75 million should be enough to tempt both the player and Newcastle. It will be a tough ask, but Chelsea need a proven goalscorer.

There has been talk of Victor Osimhen, but his wages and the structure of the deal are complicated to say the least. None fits the bill better than Isak. He’s young, with lots of room for development. He is within the age range that Chelsea are looking at, and he would love to be at a club like Chelsea.

Standing at close to two meters tall, Isak possesses the physical presence to hold up play, win aerial duels, and be a target man in the box. His height and strength would add a different dimension to Chelsea's attack, offering more versatility in their approach.

He is also one of the few strikers that Nicolas Jackson, who enjoyed a solid if inconsistent first season in the Premier League, could learn from. There would be genuine competition that improves everyone in the attacking game and helps lift them from sixth place. They just need a few more qualities to fight for a Champions League spot.

New manager Enzo Maresca is still fine-tuning his team, but even he would admit that having a player like Isak will boost everyone - including the fans, many of whom remain unconvinced by the club’s bold transfer strategy.
