The perfect Fulham and Ipswich Town transfer swap deal that could improve both sides for next season - opinion
Fulham have the chance to bring in some new faces this summer
Fulham have made great strides under the guidance of Marco Silva over the past few years. The London club have established themselves as a Premier League club and will want to keep their momentum going. They finished in a respectable 11th place in the table this past season.
The Whites have the chance to bring in some new faces over the next couple of months to bolster their ranks. They also have the opportunity to let players head out the exit door as well if needed. That would help free up space and funds in their squad to pave the way for reinforcements.
Fulham eye Ipswich Town winger Omari Hutchinson
Fulham can’t afford to stand still and must freshen things up over the next couple of months. They are interested in a move for Ipswich Town winger Omari Hutchinson, according to the Daily Mail. Brentford, West Ham and Everton have also been mentioned as potential suitors, as well as German pair Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig.
Hutchinson, 21, would be perfect for the Whites. He is young, has bags of potential and would be a great long-term options. The England youth international would also give them something different to call upon at the top end of the pitch.
Ipswich are likely to face a battle to keep hold of him in this window. It seems inevitable that they will lose him though and the player will surely want to be playing at the highest level possible. The Tractor Boys have been relegated to the Championship with Leicester City and Southampton.
Hutchinson had spells in the academies at Arsenal and Charlton Athletic before settling with Chelsea. He rose up through the academy ranks at Stamford Bridge and was a regular at various different youth levels. The Surrey-born man then went on to play twice for their first-team.
He was given the green light to head out the exit door on loan for the first time when Ipswich came calling. The forward then helped the Tractor Boys win promotion from the Football League before his transfer was made permanent. He has made 92 appearances in all competitions under the guidance of Kieran McKenna to date and has scored 17 goals.
Fulham should use Harrison Reed in Ipswich Town swap deal
Ipswich will be desperate to keep hold of Hutchinson as they eye an immediate promotion from the second tier. Therefore, they are likely to demand a hefty price. Fulham will have to fork out big money to try and secure his services.
The Whites should try and tempt the Tractor Boys into selling by offering them a player in return plus cash. Harrison Reed is someone who has been a great servant at Craven Cottage but is surplus to requirements at the moment. He could do with a change of scene to get his career back on track.
Reed, 30, would be perfect for Ipswich. He would give them more competition and depth in midfield and his experience will come in handy in their dressing room. He also knows what it takes to get promoted which is useful.
The Southampton academy graduate featured on 30 occasions for the Saints. He was also loaned out to Norwich City and Blackburn Rovers in the Football League to boost his development. Fulham came calling in 2019 on an initial temporary deal that was later made full-time.
Reed has since played 196 matches for the Cottagers and has fired three goals. He helped them win the play-offs under Silva back in 2022 and has been a dependable player to call on. His game time has dried up though and he featured only 12 times in the league last term.
Letting him go to Ipswich in return for Hutchinson would suit all parties involved. The Whites would be getting him off their wage bill and Reed would be going somewhere to get more opportunities. It wouldn’t be a surprise at all if he moved on in the near future.
