The 2026/27 Premier League stats sensations: Leeds United stars lead the way amid surprise Spurs finding
Premier League football is back this weekend after the international break - these are the most compelling individual stats so far
The three-way international break has finally come to a close, with England rounding off a largely positive four-game stint by cruising to a 3-0 win over Czechia at Wembley Stadium. All focus is now returning to the Premier League, as England’s elite clubs prepare to resume the title race, relegation battle and quest to secure European football for next season.

While we’re only five-games into the new campaign, there have been plenty of notable numbers cropping up in the early season stats. We’ve already poured over the data to find some of the worst offenders when it comes to grim statistics, with the likes of Aston Villa’s John McGinn and Everton’s Thierno Barry among the unfortunate underperformers.
With just a few days left to go until the Premier League resumes, we’ve looked to fill that void by flipping the numbers on their heads, and having a deep dive - thanks to data provided by WhoScored - into the most impressive individual stats of the season so far - they just might help you get your dusty Fantasy Premier League side sharpened up, too.
The best stats performers in the Premier League so far this season

We’ll get things underway with a look at player’s who’ve won possession the most times this season. In stark contrast to Aston Villa’s McGinn and Ross Barkley who couldn’t stop losing the ball, Brentford’s Vitaly Janelt comes out on top with an impressive 16 interceptions. He’s closely followed by Everton’s James Tarkowski on 14.
Moving on to successful dribbles, we’ve set a threshold of a minimum of 15 attempted before crowning our winner. Despite Tottenham’s dire start to the new season, their winger Mohammed Kudus comes out on top here, winning 67% of the 15 dribbles he’s attempted. He’s followed by his teammate Omar Marmosh (60% of 20) and Everton’s Tyrique George (60% of 15).
When it came to headers lost in our worst stats round-up, Everton’s Barry was the standout figure. As with the dribbles, some players will attempt more headers than others, so we’ve set a minimum of 30 header attempts to keep things fair. Leeds United’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin tops the charts here winning 55% of his 43 attempts, just pipping Sunderland’s Dan Ballard (54% of 48) and Brentford’s Igor Jesus (55% of 33) to the post.
Leeds United and Arsenal players among top performers

Switching things up from our worst performers article, we’ve moved away from offsides and foul committed, and added in a couple of new categories. Defensive clearances produced some intriguing numbers, with Newcastle United’s Sven Botman leading the way with 42. He comes ahead of Hull City’s John Egan (39) and Bournemouth’s Antonio Silva (38) on the podium of hoofers.
When it came to winning tackles, Brentford’s Mikkel Damsgaard was the division’s worst performer, emerging with the ball just 50% of the time. Leeds’ James Justin, on the other hand, won a mighty 76% of the 21 tackles he’s attempted, edging out Nottingham Forest’s Neco Williams and Bournemouth’s Adrien Truffert to bag the top spot.
In terms of shot accuracy, Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka was the clear winner here, managing to get 60% of his 15 shots on target. This comes in great contrast to bottom of the pile Gonzalo Garcia from Fulham, who worked the opposition goalkeeper with just 13% of his 15 attempts.
Finishing things up between the sticks, Newcastle United’s Lukas Hornicek has made more saves than any other Premier League goalkeeper so far this season with 19 in five matches. That puts him above Leeds United’s James Trafford (18), Brentford’s Caoimhin Kelleher and Hull City’s Konstantinos Tzolakis (17) although it’s worth noting that Trafford has only conceded three goals - the best record in the division alongside Jordan Pickford.
