The rising American star who could be Leeds' ideal Dominic Calvert-Lewin upgrade

Leeds United may look to add to their strike-force this summer if they stay in the Premier League

Leeds United are hoping to avoid an immediate return to the Championship this season and have eight games in which to ensure their safety, currently sat three points outside the relegation zone.

The Whites have drawn three of their last five Premier League fixtures and are without a league win since February 6. Daniel Farke’s side have only scored three goals in that time and none in their last three matches.

Their goalscoring issues were exasperated on Sunday as top scorer Dominic Calvert-Lewin struck a first-half penalty wide of the post in a goalless draw at Crystal Palace. The 29-year-old has struck 10 goals this season, but only two of those have come in 2026. He will be needed to rediscover his top form if Leeds are to stay up this season – then the club may reconsider their striking options ahead of next term.

Leeds could target new striker amid Calvert-Lewin ‘concern’

According to reports by Football Insider, ‘doubts’ over Calvert-Lewin remain at Leeds and the Whites may look to sign a new striker to compete with or even displace the 11-cap England international in the summer.

Leeds are thought to be happy with Calvert-Lewin after signing him on a free transfer after he left Everton last summer, but they see the value of signing a new striker who can be more of a consistent goal threat moving forward.

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider: “There are still a few concerns about Calvert-Lewin. He’s done better than most people expected him to do since he’s joined Leeds, but he’s still not the type of striker you want to rely on as your source of goals. His record, even this season, tells you that he goes through peaks and troughs, so there are doubts about whether he can do it consistently.

“I’m told they are looking to sign a new striker, somebody with a bit more consistency in front of goal as a replacement for Calvert-Lewin when he’s not doing it.”

USA international star could be the answer at Elland Road

Reporting from Football Insider continues that Leeds are targeting USA international Patrick Agyemang, who has shone for Derby County in the Championship this season and is a transfer target for multiple Premier League sides.

The 25-year-old rising star has been a late bloomer, having only become professional in 2023 after coming through the American college system. The Connecticut-born striker has 12 USA caps to his name and has struck double figures in his first season in England, drawing interest from the likes of Leeds and Crystal Palace.

Derby remain in a race for the play-offs at present and will be reluctant to let Agyemang go, but a premium transfer offer this summer could see the Rams striker become a Premier League player.

While Agyemang is not yet Premier League-proven, his rapid rise to prominence has suggested that much more is yet to come – and a strong World Cup on home soil for the USA could make him hot property this summer. His blend of sheer physical strength, aerial threat and an ability to bring others into play make for a difficult player to stop, and he could be terrorising defences at Elland Road next season if Leeds get their way.
