The blockbuster signings Liverpool could still make this summer - including Alexander Isak and Real Madrid gem
Liverpool could end the transfer window with a major statement
Liverpool have been at the front and centre of many of this summer’s biggest transfer stories as the Reds prepare for their Premier League title defence in impressive fashion.
The best part of £300million has been spent by Arne Slot’s side with record signing Florian Wirtz the most notable purchase so far, the playmaker arriving from Bayer Leverkusen amidst interest from Real Madrid and Manchester City. Former Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong had already arrived at Anfield just prior to the German’s move, and Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike were next to complete a quartet of big-money signings.
But the Reds have been smart with their outgoings too. Academy graduate Jarell Quansah departed for Wirtz and Frimpong’s former club Leverkusen in a continuation of a strong summer of business between the two clubs, before in recent days Luis Diaz completed a huge €75m move to Bayern Munich. The belief amongst Liverpool supporters is this could be to raise money for the transfer business still to be done.
Alexander Isak wants Liverpool in mammoth £150m move
This potential transfer would leave Premier League rivals quaking in their boots. Sensational reports have emerged in recent days that Alexander Isak has gone missing at Newcastle United and is attempting to force through a move to Liverpool. Personal terms will not be an issue, as reported by Fabrizio Romano on X. BBC Sport have reported that a contract in principle has already been agreed.
Liverpool with Isak up front is a scary proposition. The Sweden international has scored 54 Premier League goals in 86 appearances after a career-best of 23 last season and has been a prolific striker throughout his career, ever since he hit double figures as a 16-year-old in Sweden’s top tier in 2016.
It will likely become clear in the coming days just how much Newcastle will demand for Isak, but it will no doubt eclipse the £116m spent on Wirtz. If previous reports are true, the Magpies could demand up to £150m for their prized asset. There is every chance Liverpool could be prepared to pay up whatever it takes.
Rodrygo and Marc Guehi transfers would complete a perfect summer
If there are two remaining positions where Liverpool could still bring in reinforcements after Isak, these would be at centre-back and on the left wing. A new central defender should be a priority following the departure of Quansah, with the future of Ibrahima Konaté remaining up in the air.
Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi has been linked with Liverpool throughout the window and the Reds could still return to intensify their interest in the England international, who at 25 already has an FA Cup win and a start in the Euro 2024 final under his belt. Palace reportedly want £50m for Guehi, who is out of contract next summer and is reportedly prioritising Liverpool, but the Reds may hope to negotiate down that figure.
The final marquee name who continues to be linked with Liverpool is Real Madrid star Rodrygo. This may appear ambitious at face value, but so did deals for Wirtz and Isak, so anything is possible. The Reds would no doubt need to make sales to finance a move for the Brazilian, though. Darwin Nunez, Harvey Elliott and Federico Chiesa have been linked with moves away and Liverpool should aim to move on all three to have the best chance of landing one of the world’s most high-profile wingers.
Rodrygo is believed to be looking for an exit after falling down the pecking order in the Spanish capital. He played a bit-part role in the Club World Cup and may find himself fighting for minutes with youngsters Franco Mastantuono and Arda Guler, already behind Vinicius Jr and Kylian Mbappe in his desire to play on the left flank. A Premier League exit is a genuine possibility, with Liverpool and Arsenal the most heavily linked - though a surprise team have joined the fray, in the shape of Tottenham Hotspur. Los Blancos may need to lower their £78m asking price to seal an exit, as per The Mirror. If the 24-year-old became available for a bargain price, there is every chance Liverpool could swoop to complete what would no doubt be the ultimate summer transfer window.
