Ex-scout doubts Liverpool will continue pursuit of £150m star as Man United 'seriously consider' PL swoop

A roundup of some of the latest transfer headlines following another action-packed day of Premier League fixtures.

The stakes are high in the Premier League and surprise results continue to splash across the board. Amid the ongoing unexpected turns of this season, one eye is on the looming summer transfer window, so let’s take a look at some of the latest rumours.

Former scout doubts Liverpool will continue pursuit of striker

Liverpool are one of the clubs who have been credited with interest in the highly sought-after Alexander Isak this season. While the Newcastle United star continues to impress with his blistering performances, the Reds have been named among those looking to potentially strike a deal for him in the summer.

The Magpies are not willing to let him leave easy and former Manchester United scout Mick Brown doesn’t think Liverpool will maintain their interest, given the asking price that has been quoted.

Speaking to Football Insider, Brown backed Isak to be a huge addition to Arne Slot’s team, but admitted he doesn’t think Liverpool will sign off on such a large amount going in just one direction.

“I think he’s the best striker in the country. He would be an asset to any team. We’ve spoken about him in connection with Arsenal before. From what I hear, I don’t think Liverpool are going to be in the market to pay the sort of money Newcastle will want for Isak. There’s been talk about £150 million, Liverpool would rather invest that in a few players than just one.

“Aside from that, though, if we’re just talking about him as a player, he would improve that team. But it will all depend on whether they’re going to pay what Newcastle want, because they’re not going to let him go unless there’s an incredibly high price involved. In that case, Liverpool would probably start looking at other targets.”

The 3AM Verdict: Signing a clinical striker like Alexander Isak would be a huge statement from Liverpool but it’s not often the club splashes out huge money on just one new recruit. The last record signing was Darwin Nunez, who is coming under frequent criticism for his inconsistent performances in front of goal. If they can recoup some of the money they paid for the Uruguayan, they could reconsider spending big again, but it’s not typically in Liverpool’s plans to splash mega cash unless it’s crucial, like with Virgil van Dijk and Alisson.

Man United ‘seriously considering’ mega money swoop

Man United have been linked with Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton recently and a new report from Fichajes suggests that they are ‘seriously considering’ tabling an offer for him.

With the aim to strengthen their midfield and replace the outgoing Christian Eriksen, United are ‘preparing to pay’ as much as €80 million (£66m) to try and convince Palace to cash in on Wharton.

Ruben Amorim, who is already coming under pressure in his short stint with the club, is looking to reshape his inherited squad. The Red Devils are on the market for young players who fit the coaching style of Amorim, and that is apparently Wharton.

The 3AM Verdict: There’s been a lot of negative attention on United as they trudge their way through another lacklustre season. For more than a year now, they have been tipped to facilitate a huge overhaul of players, and plenty are expected to leave the club this summer. Spending big money doesn’t always lead to the right decision but United are looking to recruit top class players to turn their disappointing Premier League performances around.
