Liverpool can squeeze £100m from Saudi Arabia as Man Utd could pull off statement player U-turn
The latest transfer news from the Premier League, including fresh updates from Liverpool and Manchester United
The end of the 2024/25 Premier League is in sight and the summer transfer window will soon be open for business.
Clubs have now got a solid idea of what kind of business they want to conduct over the coming months, and what their missions are for the new campaign.
With that in mind, we’ve plucked a couple of the latest Premier League transfer stories from the rumour mill and thrown our two pence in as we near the end of another thrilling season in England.
Liverpool could squeeze £100m from Saudi Arabia
Once again, Saudi Arabia clubs are waiting to pounce on the Premier League for new signings and Liverpool are on their radar. After failing to sign Mohamed Salah, Saudi Pro League clubs are now eyeing Luis Diaz and the Reds could squeeze every penny out of them if they’re willing to sell.
According to former football scout Mick Brown, SPL sides are set to tempt clubs like Liverpool again this summer.
“It’s not a retirement home, they’re buying younger now, it’s not just 30-plus stars, this is real investment in the future. You’ll see £100 million+ deals again this summer, easily,” Brown told Football Insider.
“They’re prepared to test clubs like Liverpool with offers they can’t refuse and players’ heads will be turned. The wages on offer are incredible, the tax-free lifestyle. Even Liverpool could lose someone if the numbers are high enough.”
A previous Football Insider report claimed that Liverpool are considering selling Diaz this summer and will listen to offers in the region of £60 million.
The 3AM Verdict: Diaz is a key player for Liverpool and they will need to recruit well this summer to replace the expected departures. With Darwin Nunez also on the exit list and doubts over Diogo Jota, the Reds must be careful not to oversell but if they can snag a big pay day for Diaz, they can reinvest in a direct replacement. Liverpool may be after £60 million for the Colombian but if Saudi clubs are willing to splash nine figures, the Reds could drive a hard bargain and push their luck to demand up to £100 million for Diaz.
Manchester United could pull off Kobbie Mainoo U-turn
Multiple players are expected to leave Manchester United this summer, including the likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony. The Red Devils’ struggles in front of goal have stirred up exit links for almost every single attacking option on their roster this season.
The Manchester Evening News also reported last month that United could part ways with Kobbie Mainoo. There has been ongoing issues trying to reach a new contract agreement, with negotiations starting in March 2024.
With a ‘genuine chance’ of his departure reported, David Ornstein has since provided some positive news. Responding to a question in his latest Ask Ornstein Q&A, he said there is a ‘growing sense’ Mainoo will remain at Old Trafford, but the two still need to iron out the ongoing contract difficulties.
The 3AM Verdict: Man United are long overdue a reassessment of their squad, which seems to be coming this summer. With a long list of players considered for sales, we could see a mammoth overhaul at the end of the season. While this is a promising move from the club and shows willing to improve, it will be a strong statement from United to keep hold of players like Mainoo. United have recently been slammed for focusing less on Academy graduates compared to previous years, so tying down Mainoo will be a huge step in the right direction.
