The stunning £87m double Liverpool transfer deal that could see Reds dominate Premier League for years
Liverpool have the chance to add more players to Arne Slot’s side in the January transfer window
Liverpool ended up having a very busy summer on the recruitment front. They delved into the market to bring in Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez. The Reds then smashed their transfer record to bring in striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.
Arne Slot has made a positive impression since his move to Anfield. He was picked as their replacement for the popular Jurgen Klopp back in 2024. The ex-Feyenoord man managed to win the Premier League title at the first time of asking which is no mean feat.
Liverpool eye double transfer swoop involving Marc Guehi at Crystal Palace
Liverpool are eyeing a £87 million double transfer deal for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi and Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise, according to CaughtOffside. The Red worked hard to try and get Guehi out of Selhurst Park in the past transfer window. However, they weren’t able to get a deal over the line.
Guehi, 25, stayed put with the Eagles beyond the deadline. They face a real battle to keep hold of him down the line though amid attention from elsewhere. He is out of contract at the end of the season and is due to become a free agent next June as things stand.
Crystal Palace risk losing him for free if they don’t cash in on him this winter. It appears unlikely that he will put pen-to-paper on an extension with the South London outfit. Therefore, the door should swing open for Liverpool to reignite their pursuit of him.
Guehi, 25, has been a key player for the Eagles over recent years. Prior to his move there, he rose up through Chelsea’s ranks but didn’t quite make the grade at Stamford Bridge as a youngster. Instead, he was loaned out a couple of times to Swansea City in the Championship to get some experience under his belt.
The England international has become one of Oliver Glasner’s most highly valued assets. He is one of the first names on the team sheets and helped them win the FA Cup earlier this year against the odds against Manchester City at Wembley. If the Reds landed him, he would be great long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk, who isn’t getting any younger.
Why Michael Olise would suit Liverpool
Like Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah will also need replacing in the future. Step forward Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise, who would fit the bill for Liverpool. He is left-footed like Salah and likes to cut in from the right.
Olise, 23, played with Guehi at Crystal Palace and has bags of potential. He made the switch to Germany just over 12 months ago and his transfer to the Bundesliga has worked out well for him. The France international, who has 10 caps to his name, stepped outside his comfort zone to move to the Allianz Arena and the move has significantly boosted his development.
The London-born man has made 59 appearances for the German giants and has scored 24 goals, 20 of which came last term. Prior to going there, he found the net on 16 occasions in 90 outings for the Eagles. That means he has proved in the past he can perform at the top level in England.
Liverpool have made an impressive start to the new season and have won all three of their opening matches. They are aiming to win the league again ahead of the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City. The Reds can’t afford to stand still though and bringing in the likes of Guehi and Olise would show that they continue to mean business and would also protect them long-term.
