Liverpool could sign their next Roberto Firmino with stunning £72m summer transfer

Liverpool can bolster their ranks this summer when the next transfer window opens for business

Liverpool turned to Arne Slot as their manager last year and he has done well so far. He was picked as their replacement for Jurgen Klopp and he had big shoes to fill at the time. The Dutchman caught the eye at Feyenoord in the Eredivisie before his move over to England.

It has been a successful first season for him at Anfield and they are close to winning the Premier League title ahead of Arsenal. Despite losing in the Carabao Cup final to Newcastle United and being out of the Champions League and FA Cup, they have still made progress and are set to win the league which can’t be sniffed at. The Merseyside outfit will hope for more of the same next year.

Liverpool linked with Hugo Ekitike deal

Liverpool are being linked with a move for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Huge Ekitike this summer, as per CaughtOffside. They have the chance to bring in some new faces when the next transfer window is open for business. Slot also has the opportunity to let players head out the exit door as well to free up space and funds.

The report suggests the player could be available for around the £72 million mark. Arsenal have also been credited with an interest as they hunt for attacking reinforcements. Therefore, the Reds may need to fend off competition from elsewhere in this particular pursuit.

Ekitike, 22, has been with Frankfurt since joining them in 2024 on an initial loan deal that was later made permanent. He is under contract until June 2029 so the Bundesliga club are under no pressure to sell him yet and can wait for the right offer to come in. The attacker has been prolific for them in this campaign and has scored 21 goals in 43 games, 14 of which have come in the league.

Would Huge Ekitike suit Liverpool?

Liverpool can’t afford to stand still and could do with acquiring some fresh faces later this year. Ekitike could be seen as someone to strengthen their attacking department. In addition, they will need a replacement if Darwin Nunez left for a new challenge with reporter Fabrizio Romano suggesting recently that he could indeed move on.

The Reds will have Arsenal and Manchester City chasing them down next term. It is great news for them that Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have penned new deals. It is no secret that they are getting older though and they need more young blood.

Ekitike would be a great long-term addition for Slot’s side. He is young, has potential to develop down the line and would give them something different up top. They must have more bodies for next season to help them deal with both their domestic and European duties once again.

The Frenchman could have a very similar impact at Liverpool than Roberto Firmino. He arrived as a bit of an unknown quantity from Germany and immediately hit the ground running. The Brazilian left a popular figure when he departed England and is fondly remembered by his former team’s fan base, something that Ektike could replicate if he followed in his footsteps.
