Liverpool star's future 'expected' to rest on Virgil van Dijk as £6.6m-rated Man Utd ace set to leave in 2025

The Premier League transfer rumours are heating up as the countdown to January commences.

Following the last international break of the year, clubs are on the home stretch towards the start of 2025. The final Premier League game-weeks of the year will unfold and give fans a closer look at who might lift the title at the end of the season.

As things stand, Liverpool are enjoying a strong lead at the top of the tree but the January transfer window could influence those around them. With just weeks left until the window opens, the Premier League speculation is heating up, so let’s take a look at some of the latest transfer rumours.

Liverpool star’s future ‘expected’ to rest on Van Dijk

Liverpool continue to draw in speculation over the future of those approaching the end of their contracts. Mohamed Salah recently dropped the bombshell that the club had not yet offered him a new deal. If he still hasn’t put pen to paper in January, he will be able to enter pre-contract negotiations with other clubs.

The current Liverpool contract situation remains unclear but former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown believes that Salah’s decision will be influenced by those around him. If Virgil van Dijk extends his stay at Anfield, Salah could be more likely to follow suit.

“They’re desperate to commit all three to new deals. But it’s very difficult to pin a label on what Salah is going to do because those talks haven’t started yet,” Brown told Football Insider. “I think he’s looking and saying ‘I want to be winning trophies’, and they’re now top of the league so that’s already in Liverpool’s favour.

“But I’d expect him to wait and see what Van Dijk does. If he sees the captain committing his future to the club, it’s an indication that they’re moving in the right direction and that’s a boost. But if he sees his teammates leaving, what does that say about his future?

“So I’d expect him to wait and see what happens with his teammates before we hear anything about him staying or leaving.”

The 3AM Verdict: It’s a very nervy time for Liverpool fans as there is a huge risk of three key players leaving the club all at once. However, with their comfortable lead at the top of the Premier League table and their 100 percent win rate continuing in the Champions League, there’s a high chance the Reds will be able to tie the crucial trio down. If winning trophies is a priority for the players in question, this season is already doing enough to convince them of an impressive start to life under Arne Slot.

£6.6m Man United star to leave in 2025

Under the new reign of Ruben Amorim, Man United are expected to make some significant changes to their squad. A number of senior players have been linked with exits for some time now, and Florian Plettenberg has reported that Christian Eriksen is not someone the club plan on keeping around.

“The current and clear trend is that Christian Eriksen’s contract will not be extended after the season. The 32-year-old is therefore likely to leave on a free transfer in the summer at the latest,” the Sky reporter posted on social media.

Eriksen has had a mixed bag of time on the pitch so far this season, making six Premier League starts but missing out on three occasions and making three cameo appearances. With his contract due to expire in June, the midfielder will need to find a new club as United prepare for what could be a summer player overhaul.

The 3AM Verdict: United have been linked with some major changes as they look to turn their season around under Amorim. Eriksen is among six players approaching the end of their contracts at Old Trafford and Amorim is already assessing his options for potential new signings. The Red Devils are looking to improve their threat in front of goal, as they have one of the lowest goal returns so far this season. With a clear-out likely to be on the horizon, it’s a key part of this new chapter for United.
