Fabrizio Romano reveals Man Utd defender exit 'authorised' as Liverpool tell star he can 'find a new club'
A roundup of some of the latest Premier League transfer headlines.
The return of the Premier League is now less than a week away and despite fans being treated to Euro 2024 and Paris Olympics action this summer, they will be delighted to see domestic football back on their screens.
The most elite clubs in England will take to the stage once again in just a matter of days, but while the football returns, transfer talks will continue behind the scenes. Premier League outfits still have time to finalise some last signings and sales, so let’s take a look at some of the latest transfer rumours and whether they will come to fruition.
Man United ‘authorise’ £15m player exit
Manchester United still have some transfer targets on their radar for this summer but they are also looking to shift some weight around the first team too. When the window opened, it was reported that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and co were willing to listen to offers for the majority of the Reds first team and they have already offloaded a few senior players.
Another is due to be announced soon, with Fabrizio Romano dropping his trademark ‘here we go’ announcement on Aaron Wan-Bissaka to West Ham. The Reds Devils and the Irons have been in discussions over the right-back for a while and according to the transfer expert, a ‘verbal agreement’ is now in place and Wan-Bissaka will undergo a medical on Sunday.
United have ‘authorised’ the defender to travel, ahead of what will be a £15 million move if all goes to plan.
The 3AM Verdict: United have made it clear that they want a refresh of their squad and with them targeting Bayern Munich’s Noussair Mazraoui as a direct replacement for Wan-Bissaka, it makes sense for all involved to see this move go through. The Hammers only have 31-year-old Vladimír Coufal on their books as a natural right-back, so it’s likely Wan-Bissaka will be made the main man in that position this season, while United pocket some funds back towards balancing their books.
Liverpool will allow midfielder to move on this summer
Liverpool are still on the market for new midfielders despite focusing all their funds and efforts on revamping the engine room last summer. After bringing in four new recruits, the Reds are still looking to sign a new defensive midfield option, with the arrival of Wataru Endō looking like more of a stopgap signing than a permanent fixture
A new report from Football Insider claims that Liverpool ‘will tell’ Endō that he ‘is free to find a new club’ if they are successful in bringing in a new No.6. They have been heavily linked with a move for Real Sociedad’s Martín Zubimendi this summer and are hoping to get a deal over the line before the new season starts, or at least before the transfer window slams shut later this month.
The 3AM Verdict: While Endō did a solid job of stepping up in his debut season, Liverpool seemed to sign him in a scramble to replace Fabinho, having already lost out on signing Roméo Lavia and Moisés Caicedo. If the Reds are going to integrate Stefan Bajčetić into Arne Slot’s side while also signing a new senior No.6, there will be no real room for Endō to play regular football. The Japanese international have been a strong asset to the club and it would be a shame to see him go so soon, but if Bajčetić is going to become the new signing’s deputy, Endō may as well find somewhere he can be first choice.
