Man United braced for £73m transfer humiliation as Burnley chase lethal striker signing
Latest Premier League news and rumours including updates relating to Manchester United, Aston Villa and Burnley
Premier League teams have the chance to freshen up their ranks with some new signings when the January transfer window opens up for business. They will also get the opportunity to let some players head out the exit door as well if needed. Arsenal lead the way at the summit after the first 11 fixtures.
The Gunners are eyeing the title under Mikel Arteta but have the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool chasing them down, among others. At the other end of the table, Wolves, West Ham and Nottingham Forest occupy the relegation zone. Fulham, Leeds United and Burnley then lie just above the bottom three.
Man Utd ready to cut ties with Jadon Sancho permanently
Manchester United are prepared to ‘let’ Jadon Sancho leave for free when his contract expires, according to a report by Fichajes. The winger’s contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season and he is due to become a free agent in June 2026 as things stand. He is currently away on loan at Aston Villa but has struggled to break into Unai Emery’s starting XI so far and has found minutes hard to come by at Villa Park.
Sancho, 25, joined the Red Devils for £73m back in 2021 after catching the eye in Germany with Borussia Dortmund. He has since made 83 appearances in all competitions and has scored 12 goals but has fallen out of favour under Ruben Amorim. The forward has also been loaned out to Dortmund again and Chelsea since his transfer four years ago.
The 3AM Verdict: Letting Jadon Sancho leave on a permanent basis would be a sensible decision by Manchester United. His move to the Red Devils hasn’t worked out and a full-time change of scene will do him good and will benefit his career. The winger needs to be getting regular minutes and will be weighing up where he wants to play next.
Burnley target Norwich City striker Josh Sargent
Burnley are ‘ready’ to move for Norwich City striker Josh Sargent, according to journalist Alan Nixon on his Patreon page. The Clarets are admirers of the USA international and could launch a swoop this winter. He is under contract at Carrow Road until 2028 but his future in East Anglia is up in the air right now.
Sargent has been on the books of his current club since joining them back in 2021. Prior to his switch to England, he was a key player for Werder Bremen. He has since gone on to make 145 appearances in all competitions and has fired 54 goals, six of which have come in this campaign.
Norwich have endured a poor start to this term in the Championship and are in the relegation zone with Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday. They have sacked Liam Manning and are now considering his replacement. The Canaries lost 2-1 to Leicester City over the weekend.
The 3AM Verdict: Josh Sargent would be a shrewd signing for Burnley if they managed to lure him away from Norwich City. He has proved over recent years that he knows where the back of the net is in East Anglia. The striker would give the Clarets more competition and depth up top and would provide Scott Parker with another option to pick from.
