The mega Newcastle United and Brentford transfer swap deal that could finally get Wissa deal done
Newcastle United are preparing for the start of the new Premier League season
Newcastle United have delved into the market so far this summer to bring in attacker Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest. It has been a frustrating window for the North East outfit so far, with the majority of their transfer advances met with a solid brick wall, only for their targets to join other Premier League clubs. Nevertheless, they have until the deadline on Monday 1st September to bring in some new players.
Eddie Howe’s side are back in the Champions League and that should boost their chances of bringing in their targets. They kick-start the new 2025/26 Premier League season with an away trip to the Midlands to face Aston Villa. The Toon Army then face champions Liverpool in their first home game.
Newcastle United keen on Brentford winger Yoane Wissa
Newcastle are keen on signing Brentford attacker Yoane Wissa, as per talkSPORT. Howe wants to lure the forward to St. James’ Park to bolster his attacking department. The Magpies could do with some more competition and depth at the top end of the pitch.
Wissa, 28, has adapted well to life in England since his move in 2021. The Bees are expected to face a battle to keep hold of him over the coming weeks amid attention from elsewhere. He is under contract with the London club until June next year meaning they risk losing him for free in 2026 if they don’t sell him now or in January, assuming he doesn’t put pen-to-paper on an extension at the Brentford Community Stadium anytime soon.
The DR Congo international, who has 33 caps to his name, would be ideal for Newcastle. He would inject quality into their squad and is a proven performer at the top level. The France-born man has scored 49 goals in 149 games for Brentford in all competitions to date, an impressive 20 of which came in the last campaign.
Wissa started his career with spells as a youngster at Châteauroux and Angers. FC Lorient took a gamble on him in 2017 after loan spells at Laval and Ajaccio. He subsequently became a key player for his previous team and found the net on 37 occasions in 128 outings to earn his move away.
Newcastle United should offer Harvey Barnes in swap deal
Newcastle should use Harvey Barnes as part of a swap deal to try and get Wissa from Brentford. The Lancashire-born man may find game time hard to come by following Elanga’s arrival. In addition, he has been inconsistent since his transfer from Leicester City.
Barnes would have more chance of starting with the Bees and would be one of the first names on Keith Andrews’ team sheet, especially if both Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo leaves. They have already seen head coach Thomas Frank head out the exit door to Tottenham Hotspur. Andrews has been picked as his replacement but lacks experience as a number one.
The Toon Army snapped up Barnes back in 2023 from the Foxes. He has since played 63 games and has chipped in with 14 goals. The England international managed to find his feet last term after a tough first 12 months but his long-term future may still be up in the air.
He rose up through the academy at Leicester and was a regular at various different youth levels. The wide-man went on to play 187 matches for their first-team and fired 45 goals. He was also loaned out to MK Dons, Barnsley and West Brom to get some experience under his belt and boost his development.
In fact, he was at MK Dons at the same time Andrews was a coach there. Therefore, he already knows the new Brentford manager so a reunion would make sense. Barnes would be a perfect acquisition if they were to lose Wissa and Mbeumo in the near future.
