Next Nottingham Forest manager odds: Former Man Utd & Brighton coaches among favourites

Sean Dyche has been sacked as Nottingham Forest manager - but who are the favourites to replace him?

Another axe has fallen: Nottingham Forest have given Sean Dyche the chop after a run of just one win in their last five Premier League matches, a series of results which leaves the club perched just one place and three points above the relegation zone.

Dyche’s departure leaves Forest on the hunt for their fourth manager of the season with Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou also fired over the course of the campaign. Clearly, the head coaching job at the City Ground doesn’t come with especially good long-term prospects – so who will be brave enough to take the job on and try their luck at forging a successful career under the watchful eye of Evangelos Marinakis? We’ve looked at the coaches that are the current frontrunners, according to the bookmakers.

Former Manchester United man Ole Gunnar Solskjær among early frontrunners

The Independent are among a number of media outlets suggesting that former Manchester United and Besiktas manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær is the early favourite for the role.

The 52-year-old did a fine job as interim manager at Old Trafford back in 2018 and even if the full-time role turned out to be a little beyond him in the end, he demonstrated a capacity to get a dressing room on board and sustain a short-term upturn of a team’s results. Odds as low as 6/4 are available for the Norwegian.

Another former Premier League manager is also among the favourites – Roberto De Zerbi has just left his role as Marseille manager and is as low as 2/1 with some bookmakers to be appointed in Dyche’s place, although it’s worth noting that he has also been strongly linked with the freshly-vacated Tottenham Hotspur job too.

Also available at 2/1 is Vitor Pereira, the Portuguese coach who turned Wolves around last season before his reign collapsed after the summer. Like Solskjær, he has at least demonstrated that he can achieve a swift about-turn in form at a struggling Premier League club.

Former Spurs and Man Utdd coaches among long-shot choices

A few slightly more fanciful names have also sprung up, some of them with surprisingly short odds – not least of them Thomas Frank, who has only just left the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with his managerial reputation severely damaged.

The Dane is available at 5/1 in some quarters, as – perhaps surprisingly – is Ruben Amorim, another recent victim of a Premier League sacking. It’s hard to imagine Amorim at the City Ground at this point in time, but he is at least available.

Former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca comes in at 6/1 in some quarters despite widespread rumours that Manchester City want to appoint him should Pep Guardiola leave at the end of the season, while the inevitable spectre at every managerial feast – Sam Allardyce – is down at 8/1.

Other names available at less than 10/1 include EFL managerial journeyman Gary Rowett and Will Still, who was relieved of duties as Southampton head coach back in November.
