Forget Jack Grealish - Tottenham could supercharge attack by signing £31m dazzling alternative

He made ten goal contributions for Man City last season after a £31m move

As Tottenham Hotspur continue to reel from their failed pursuit of Morgan Gibbs-White and the departure of Son Heung-min, Thomas Frank and Daniel Levy have turned their attention to Jack Grealish to boost Spurs’ attack next season, but another Manchester City player could be the perfect solution instead.

As Tottenham were trounced by a Harry Kane-inspired Bayern Munich in their last match before a UEFA Super Cup face-off with PSG that threatens to be a massacre, the scale of the transformation still required of Frank, - particularly in attack - was clear.

Brennan Johnson is fine as a front-line option but lacks game-breaking ability while Richarlison’s struggles with consistency are well-documented at this point, and with Tottenham fighting in three cup competitions this season as well as the Premier League there will be plenty of opportunities to go around regardless.

Young stars of the Europa League campaign Mikey Moore, Will Lankshear and Damola Ajayi have all been loaned out with Mathys Tel’s move made permanent alongside the arrival of Mohammed Kudus, so Tottenham’s forward ranks don’t run too deep hence the pursuit of Grealish.

However, GIVEMESPORT claim Tottenham are also monitoring Savinho and Grealish’s younger teammate could be the perfect player to become Frank’s first-choice left winger this season.

Savinho can ignite sputtering Spurs attack

One of the most dynamic dribblers in the Premier League last season, Savinho was underrated in his debut season at the Etihad Stadium as his reputation took a hit from the Citizen’s general slump in pursuit of a fifth consecutive English crown. His one league goal was routinely used as a stick to beat him with (he additionally scored one each in the Club World Cup and Champions League) as Savinho was genuinely atrocious in front of goal.

Ending the Premier League with an expected goals tally of five, according to Opta per FBRef.com Savinho was the worst finisher in the division out of 574 players by goals minus xG, ahead of Cameron Archer and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, though he also finished his curtain-raiser with nine assists.

Savinho enjoyed a much better season in front of goal for Girona in 2023/24, scoring 11 in all competitions (crucially outperforming his xG by three) as he also notched 10 assists.

So aged 21, it’s certainly not unthinkable that he could, even should improve his strike rate after an adjustment period to English football and the exaggerated focus on what he can’t do (yet) has overshadowed the dynamite ability Savinho already possesses with the ball at his feet. Savinho terrorised defenders last season making as many successful take-ons as Kaouru Mitoma and Bryan Mbeumo, ranking joint-12th in the league over the course of the season and also among the best in the division for progressive carries.

Only Mohamed Salah, Antoine Semenyo, Matheus Cunha, Luis Diaz, Kudus and Cole Palmer created more shots from beating a man - pretty decent company especially at such a tender age, while the Brazilian also sneaks into the top 10 for assists despite Manchester City’s struggles that season.

Just two take-ons directly resulted in goals last season but again that’s predicated on Savinho’s poor finished - if he can improve that then he will be very quickly approaching a complete attacker that could ignite Tottenham’s attack.

Can Tottenham land Savinho?

Savinho’s unpredictable nature certainly appears more of a fit in Frank’s Tottenham than Guardiola’s Manchester City, with Savinho ironically not dissimilar in some regards to Grealish.

Kudus and Savinho may not be the most metronomic duo on the flanks but they’re both capable of the extraordinary, are massive proven and potential goal threats, work hard out of possession and could rank amongst the best in the world on their day.

The Brazilian moved from City Football Group-owned Troyes to City Football Group-owned Manchester City for £30.8m last summer, which must’ve been a pretty tough negotiation, though Tottenham would probably have to pay double that unless they’re bought by Sheikh Mansour before the end of August.

Tottenham are yet to make a bid for Savinho and are currently only monitoring the player, but they have holes in the squad, the Gibbs-White money available and a closing window in which to fix their problems.

Savinho wouldn’t be a sure-fire bet but his huge potential and promising start to life in England show he could be a sensation at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - if Spurs can take the risk.
