Romero, Udogie & Tel: Latest Spurs injury news and expected return dates ahead of Monaco match

The latest Spurs injury news and return dates - with updates on Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie, Mathys Tel and more.
Tottenham Hotspur will have to put a disappointing Premier League defeat to Aston Villa behind them quickly, as Thomas Frank takes his team to Monaco for Wednesday night’s Champions League match – but he could be leaving several key players in North London thanks to fresh injury problems.
Destiny Udogie and Cristian Romero were both left out of the squad to face Villa due to new injuries, while Mathys Tel had to be taken off in the second half having taken a knock. All three are now doubts for the midweek match against AS Monaco and Spurs could be forced to make do without seven players in total. We’ve got all of the latest Spurs injury news and updates below ahead of Wednesday's match, along with the stricken players’ expected return dates when available.
Will Cristian Romero & Destiny Udogie be fit to face Monaco?
Centre-back Romero withdrew from the Spurs squad at the very last minute on Sunday after sustaining an adductor injury during pre-match warm-ups, with Kevin Danso taking his place in the starting line-up.
Frank told the media that he believed the injury was “minor” but added that “I just don’t know” whether Romero might be available for the Champions League match against Monaco. There are, as yet, no indications that Romero is set to miss significant time but he is a major doubt for Wednesday's game.

Left-back Udogie, meanwhile, was left out due to a knee injury picked up during training over the international break. Although the 22-year-old didn’t play a minute for Italy, he still returned to London with what Frank described as a “minor irritation” and “nothing major.” As with Romero, there are no indications that a lengthy lay-off is likely, but he is a doubt for Wednesday night.
How bad was Mathys Tel’s injury for Spurs?
With Dominic Solanke out and Randal Kolo Muani still working his way back to full fitness, young forward Tel was given the start against Villa – but had to be taken off on the hour mark and was later seen with an ice pack strapped to his calf.
The severity of the injury has not yet been made public, and it’s unclear whether the substitution and treatment were precautionary or indicative of a more serious problem. As it stands, Tel is a doubt for the Monaco game.
That could pave the way for summer signing Kolo Muani to make his first start for Spurs after the Frenchman recovered from a thigh injury, although Richarlison may still be favoured up front. Solanke is likely still two to three weeks away from a return after undergoing surgery on an ankle injury – the 8 November game against Manchester United is a realistic target.
Elsewhere, Kota Takai (foot) is still waiting to make his debut for Spurs but should be back in the fold imminently while Ben Davies (muscular) is unlikely to be involved against Monaco, with no return date has been set for the veteran defender. Radu Dragusin (ACL) is back in light training and should make his comeback in November, although Frank has refused to set a target date.
Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison (both ACL) also remain unavailable, with Kulusevski expected to push to make a return in late November while Maddison misses most if not all of the season. Midfielder Yves Bissouma, meanwhile, who has been plagued by fitness problems since the summer, will be out for “weeks” and is unlikely to be involved until early or mid-November.
