Van de Ven, Richarlison, Romero: Spurs injury latest and return dates ahead of Galatasaray and Ipswich

The latest injury news from Tottenham Hotspur as several players look to return to contention.

Tottenham Hotspur laid the foundations for what they will hope to be an improved run of form when they eased to a 4-1 home win against Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.

With summer signing Dominic Solanke scoring twice and Brennan Johnson and James Maddison also finding the net, Ange Postecoglou’s side claimed a win that keeps them just two points adrift of the top four. Matters turn towards the Europa League on Thursday with a trip to Turkish giants Galatasaray before they round off their Premier League fixtures before the final international break of the year with a home game against struggling Ipswich Town on Sunday afternoon.

Postecoglou will then keep his fingers cross that a whole host of Spurs players return from international duty without picking up injuries - and the former Celtic boss is also hoping to receive some positive news from several other members of his squad that have been kept on the sidelines in recent weeks. Ahead of Thursday’s visit to Galatasaray, we look at the injury latest and the possible return dates of five Spurs stars.

Micky van de Ven

The ten-times capped Netherlands international picked up a hamstring injury in the recent Carabao Cup win against Manchester City. Speaking just days after the game, Postecoglou revealed the injury was ‘not too serious’ but did confirm the former Wolfsburg defender would not return to contention until after the international break. Possible return date: Late November.

Djed Spence

Spence has a mixed month during October as he penned a new contract at Spurs last month and suffered a groin strain in training that has kept him out of action for Spurs last three games. Postecoglou confirmed the former Middlesbrough wing-back was ‘getting closer’ to a return in the final week of October and there is some hope he could be back in contention for Sunday’s home game with Ipswich. Possible return date: Sunday.

Wilson Odobert

The summer signing picked up a hamstring injury in last month’s 2-1 Carabao Cup win against Coventry City and has not featured in the last seven games in all competitions. However, it is believed to a thigh injury that has extended Odobert’s period on the sidelines and it is as yet unclear when he could return. Possible return date: Unknown.

Cristian Romero

Romero picked up a foot injury in Sunday’s win against Aston Villa and was replaced by Ben Davies on the hour-mark. Although Spurs have said little about the injury, reports in Argentina have suggested the centre-back has injured ligaments in his foot after there were initial fears he had suffered a break. Should that report be proven correct, Romero will likely return after the upcoming international break. Possible return date: Late November.

Richarlison

The Brazil international suffered a hamstring injury in the win against Villa after he came off the bench to set up Dominic Solanke’s second goal of the game. After replacing Son in the early stages of the second half, Richarlison was replaced by James Maddison with eight minutes remaining and is now being assessed. As it stands, there is no indication over when he could return to contention. Possible return date: Unknown.
