Rating Tottenham's top ten most expensive signings ever - including £50m ace and ex-West Ham star
Tottenham Hotspur have spent big money on players over the years as we count down their most expensive deals
Tottenham Hotspur turned to Thomas Frank as their manager in the summer. He was lured away from fellow Premier League side Brentford following their decision to part ways with Ange Postecoglou, who has now linked up with Nottingham Forest. The Dane was a hit during his time with the Bees but opted to leave for a new challenge.
Spurs are no strangers to splashing the cash on new players. They are regulars in Europe and managed to win the Europa League last season under Postecoglou. Here is a look at their 10 most expensive signings in their history to date.....
Rating Tottenham Hotspur’s most expensive signings
10) Archie Gray: Spurs forked out £36 million to sign the versatile youngster from Leeds United. Prior to his move to London, he broke into the first-team at Elland Road. He has enjoyed plenty of game time since then and has a bright future ahead of him at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Rating: 7/10
9) Davinson Sanchez: He cost £36.3 m from Ajax back in 2017. The Colombia international, who has made 73 caps for his country, went on to make 207 appearances in all competitions and was a good servant. He now plays in Turkey for Galatasaray. Rating: 7/10
8) James Maddison: Spurs paid £40m to land the attacking midfielder from Leicester City. He has since played 75 games and has scored 16 goals. However, he is currently out injured which isn’t ideal. Rating: 7/10
7) Cristian Romero: He initially joined on loan before his transfer was made permanent for £45m. The ex-Atalanta man has proved to be a solid option to call upon at the back. He has played 128 games to date and has found the net on eight occasions from the back. Rating: 7/10
6) Brennan Johnson: The former Nottingham Forest attacker scored the winner for Spurs in their Europa League final win over Manchester United. That in itself probably makes his £47.6m switch worth it. He has turned out to be a shrewd acquisition. Rating: 8/10

5) Richarlison: On his day, Richarlison can cause problems to any defenders in the top flight. Consistency has been his issue since his move to England. Spurs parted ways with £50m when they signed him from Everton and he has been pretty hit and miss since then. Rating: 6/10
4) Tanguy Ndombele: He cost a hefty £53.6m from Lyon but never quite lived up to the hype. The Frenchman is now back in his native country with OGC Nice. He joined his current club back in 2024 following a loan spell at Galatasaray. Rating: 5/10
3) Mohammed Kudus: Spurs landed him for £55m from West Ham this past summer. He has been brought in to boost their attacking department and it is too early to judge him properly. The Ghana international was a hit during his first year with the Hammers but his goals dried up in the last campaign. Rating: N/A
2) Dominic Solanke: He was acquired for £55.6m just over 12 months ago from AFC Bournemouth. The striker provides another option to pick from at the top end of the pitch. He scored 16 goals last term, nine of which came in the league. Rating: 7/10
1) Xavi Simons: It is hard to give him a rating so early on in his Spurs career. He looks to be a very good addition on paper though. He has been snapped up for a whopping £56.2m after catching the eye in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig. Rating: N/A
