The hidden gem attacker with Jack Grealish vibes that West Ham could sign in January without spending a penny

West Ham have embarked on a new era under the guidance of head coach Nuno Espirito Santo

West Ham swiftly turned to Nuno Espirito Santo following their decision to part ways with Graham Potter. The Portuguese boss has managed the likes of Wolves, Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest in the past. He parted ways with the latter earlier this month and is already back in the dugout.

The Hammers drew 1-1 away at Everton in his first match on Monday. They fell behind in the first half after Michael Keane’s opener for the Toffees. However, they struck in the second half to equalise through the reliable Jarrod Bowen.

West Ham should eye Matteo Tramoni deal

Pisa’s speedy attacking midfielder Matteo Tramoni is a hidden gem in Serie A and should be considered by West Ham ahead of the January transfer window. The 25-year-old can play on either flank on the wing as well as down the middle and this versatility would make him a useful player to call upon. Nuno likes his teams to play on the counter attack and this would suit the Italian’s style of play.

Tramoni, who is a former France youth international, is out of contract at the end of the season. His long-term future in Italy is up in the air. His current club risk losing him for nothing if they don’t cash in on him soon, assuming he doesn’t pen an extension in the meantime.

The Ajaccio-born man helped Pisa gain promotion from Serie B in the last campaign against the odds. They face a real battle to keep hold of him down the line amid his uncertain transfer situation. It won’t be a surprise to see other teams come in for him and he is now eligible to play for the Italy national team.

Tramoni moved to Arena Garibaldi back in 2022 and he hasn’t looked back since. He has made 74 appearances in all competitions, seven of which have come this term, and he has scored an eye-catching 22 goals under the radar. In addition, he has chipped in with six assists for his teammates.

Why hidden gem Matteo Tramoni would be worth a gamble by West Ham

Tramoni is still relatively young and is about to enter his prime years. This is a big year for him in the Italian top flight and if he can make the step up with ease, he should try and test himself in England next. West Ham need to think outside the box with their recruitment and he would definitely be worth a gamble based on his statistics over recent times at Pisa.

If he joined the Hammers, he would give them more competition and depth at the top end of the pitch. They need as much cover as possible in attacking areas, especially if injuries strike. He would also give Nuno something different to call upon in games and would try and get the fans at the London Stadium off their seats.

Tramoni rose up through the academy at AC Ajaccio and was a regular for them at various different youth levels. He initially broke into their reserve side as a youngster before making the step up into the first-team. Cagliari then came calling for his services in 2020.

He subsequently spent two years in Sardinia but struggled to make the impact he would have wanted to, mainly due to his tender age at the time. Brescia swooped in for him on loan and he got plenty of experience under his belt there to boost his development. Pisa then snapped him up permanently three years ago and he has since become one of their most highly valued assets.

Like famously Everton’s Jack Grealish, he likes to play with his socks down. Italian pundit Antacalcio Pedia hailed his influence back in July and said “Matteo Tramoni is one of the protagonists of Pisa. A technical and incisive winger, he combines speed and goal-scoring sense. In the 2024/25 season, he stood out as one of the team's best scorers, often proving decisive with his plays."
