Hwang, Sarabia & Traoré: Wolves injury news and expected return dates
The latest Wolves injury news and expected return dates ahead of the Premier League showdown with Fulham later this month.
Wolverhampton Wanderers finally picked up their first Premier League win of the season last weekend, and it may well have been a result which saved Gary O’Neil’s job – but not everything is rosy as Wolves head into the international break, with several lingering injury concerns hanging over the team’s head.
Even with the better part of a fortnight between now and Wolves’ next Premier League match against Fulham on 23 November, there are already six first-team players who are out or doubtful, with the risk of more to come over the course of the break.
We’ve got the latest injury news on all of Wolves’ stricken players below along with their estimated return dates when available.
Hwang Hee-Chan
Injury has limited the South Korean forward’s playing time this year, with an ankle ligament injury sustained in October the most recent problem. When O’Neil spoke to the media at the time, he said that Hwang would be out for “a couple to a few weeks” but a month on, he is yet to return to the squad.
The good news is that he is now back in first-team training and has a fortnight to build his fitness back up, as he was left out of South Korea’s latest national squad. He is likely to be available for selection to face Fulham.
Pablo Sarabia
The Spaniard scored Wolves’ fastest ever Premier League goal against Southampton on Saturday, but was hauled off at half-time during the game despite his impressive start, with O’Neil later revealing that he was taken off due to a “tight calf”. The club have not provided any further updates on his condition but it was believed to be a precautionary move and there are no indications that Sarabia faces an extended lay-off.
Boubacar Traoré
The Malian midfielder continues to work his way back from a knee meniscus injury which has sidelined him for the entirety of the season so far. Surgery to repair the joint was successful but he was expected to be out until the Christmas period – that timeline has not changed, although Wolves have not provided any public updates about his recovery recently.
Saša Kalajdžić
It’s now been nine months since the unfortunate Austrian striker suffered the third anterior cruciate ligament injury of his career while on loan with Eintracht Frankfurt, but he is now back in light training as he works towards his latest comeback. He is expected to begin ball work in November, but is not expected to be available for selection until the end of December at the earliest.
Yerson Mosquera
The Colombian centre-half sustained damage to his anterior and medial cruciate ligaments during the match against Aston Villa in September and is expected to miss the rest of the season as a consequence. Surgery on the issue was successful but he will not be back in contention until the summer.
Enso González
The Paraguayan winger, who has made just one senior appearance for Wolves since joining last summer, is also recovering from an ACL injury but is “a few months” ahead of Mosquera, according to O’Neil. The 19-year-old picked the injury up on international duty at the Paris Olympics. He could play again before the end of the season, but no timeline has been set.
