Chalobah, Lavia and Fofana: Chelsea injury news and return dates ahead of Southampton clash

The latest Chelsea injury new as the Blues look to push on towards Champions League qualification

Chelsea are back in Premier League action on Tuesday night with a home clash against Southampton. The Saints only have nine points on the board and are inside the drop zone with Ipswich Town and Leicester City.

The Blues head into the match on the back of their 2-1 loss away at Aston Villa last time out. They took the lead at Villa Park but two goals by Marco Asensio saw the hosts pick up all three points.

Enzo Maresca’s side are sat in 7th in the table as they eye European football. They are only a point off the top four.

Chelsea defensive issues

Trevoh Chalobah - out. The defender picked up a back injury against Aston Villa and will sit out against Southampton. Maresca has said: “Trevoh had a check yesterday, and he will be [out] for around one week to 10 days. On the one hand, it’s good that it’s not a big injury, but on the other hand, it is a shame because we lose another player. He won’t play vs Saints, but we will see how he is for the next one.” Expected return date: 06/03/2025.

Benoit Badiashile - out. He is still in the treatment room for the Blues and an exact return date is yet to be known at this stage as he continues his recovery. The centre-back isn’t believed to be too far away. Expected return date: 09/03/2025.

Wesley Fofana - out. The former Leicester City man has been sidelined with a thigh problem. His boss has said: “Wesley has started to work with us again as of two days ago, but we cannot rush him, and he will still need at least two or three weeks working before he can be ready to play.” Expected return date: 15/03/2025.

Chelsea midfield and attacking woes

Romeo Lavia - out. It has been a frustrating first couple of seasons for the ex-Southampton man at Stamford Bridge. Maresca explained last week: “Lavia is still a little way off being back. I think he could be the same as Nico and looking at after the international break for a return.” Expected return date: 02/04/2025.

Marc Guiu - out. He is out of action with a thigh injury until around April. Maresca has said: “Marc will also be out for a while. He has a muscle problem, a hamstring issue as well, and will be out for a little while.” Expected return date: 02/04/2025.

Nicolas Jackson - out. Like Guiu, Jackson also has a thigh issue and isn’t expected to return just yet. In this latest update, his head coach said: “Nico is injured and will be out until the international break. We knew he had a muscular problem but not how important it was at that stage. His reaction was good, so we didn't think it was going to be a big injury. Unfortunately, he had a scan which has shown the injury, and he will be out for 6-8 weeks.” Expected return date: 02/04/2025.

Noni Madueke - out. He hasn’t played for a while and it will be a boost when he is back. Maresca said earlier this month: “Noni, unfortunately, has a hamstring problem, so, unfortunately, will be out for a little while.” Expected return date: 02/04/2025.
