Everton could snatch £34m-rated Newcastle United target as Arsenal eye big-money versatile midfielder

Premier League transfer news latest including stories on Chelsea, Arsenal, Newcastle, Everton and more

Gameweek 6 of the Premier League is done and dusted, with another set of English top tier fixtures bringing stunning goals, red cards and drama galore. Man City shrugged off their off-field issues with an emphatic 3-0 win away to Liverpool, Arsenal came back from a goal down to beat Leeds United 2-1, and Chelsea smashed Bournemouth 5-1 at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, Tottenham had a player sent off but still managed to fight back and get a 1-1 draw at Manchester United, Nottingham Forest boss Oliver Glasner’s return to Crystal Palace ended in a 3-1 defeat, and Brighton moved to within five points of the table’s summit with a 2-0 win away to Sunderland.

Today’s rumours round-up begins at Chelsea, who will be fine spirits after trouncing the Cherries last weekend. They could be set to rub salt into the wound further, with Team Talk suggesting the Blues are confident of signing Bournemouth’s talismanic midfielder Alex Scott in January.

The report claims that Chelsea are determined to get their man after seeing two bids turned down over the summer. Despite the Cherries looking to offer the newly minted England international a fresh contract to raise his value, it’s said that if Chelsea make a bid close to £100m, it could be enough to seal the deal during the winter window.

The 3AM Verdict: Chelsea made a total mess of trying to replace Enzo Fernandez on Deadline Day, but they’ll soon get over it if they can land Scott in January. The player is said to want the move, but if Bournemouth end up in a relegation battle by the new year, it’s hard to see them sanctioning the exit of one of their most important players.

Arsenal keep ‘close watch’ on Inter gem

Over at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal are gearing up for their Champions League clash against Lille this evening, after fighting back to beat Leeds last weekend. Caught Offside say that the Gunners also have an eye on the transfer market, and are now closely monitoring Inter’s £50m-rated midfielder Andy Diouf, along with several other top clubs.

The two-cap France international, who can also play at right-back, is currently under contract until 2030, but that hasn’t stopped scouts from the Gunners, along with those from Chelsea, PSG and Barcelona, apparently taking an interest in the 23-year-old gem. A January deal is said to be unlikely, but it’s believed that a bid further down the line can’t be ruled out.

The 3AM Verdict: Versatility is everything in modern football - with the constant churn of matches, having a Swiss army knife who can slot in to more than one position is an ideal situation. Diouf has become a regular starter for Inter, but may not have that luxury should he join the sides linked with him. If he’s fine with that, he’d be a great buy for any of them.

Everton join race for Croatian gem

We’ll stay at Inter for our last story of the day, where Croatian midfielder Peter Sucic is also gathering some interest. The 24-year-old was heavily linked with Newcastle over the summer, but the Magpies ultimately opted to sign Nico Gonzalez from Man City instead. According to reports from the Croatian press, via Sport Witness, the race could be set to open up again soon.

The report suggests that should the player continue to struggle for game time at the San Siro, he could become available for transfer when the window opens again in the new year, with Everton set to join Newcastle in his pursuit. However, the player is said to be determined to fight for his place in the Inter side, as the Milan-based club target their 22nd league title.

The 3AM Verdict: Both sides already have an absolute wealth of central midfielders on the books. There’s no denying Sucic is a quality player, but what would his arrival mean for Harrison Armstrong at Everton? Or Lewis Miley at Newcastle? Both clubs are simply too crowded in this position as thing stand, but a couple of sales could open the door to his arrival.
