Man United 'exploring' bold free agent striker deal as Sunderland look to sign La Liga gem
Latest Premier League news and rumours including Manchester United, Everton and Sunderland updates
Manchester United are ‘exploring’ the possibility of signing striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, according to CaughtOffside. The report suggests the player has emerged on their radar this summer ahead of the new Premier League season. Ruben Amorim’s side finished down in a disappointing 15th place in the table in the last campaign.
The Red Devils could see Calvert-Lewin, 28, as someone to boost their attacking department. He is weighing up his options in the game following his exit from Everton at the end of June. The Sheffield-born man spent nine years with the Toffees and scored 71 goals in 274 games in all competitions, three of which came last term.
The 3AM verdict: Dominic Calvert-Lewin would be a useful back-up option for Manchester United if they managed to lure him to Old Trafford. If he joined the Red Devils, he would add more competition and depth to their striking department. He would offer them something different to what they already have at their disposal. In addition, he could inject some valuable experience into their squad.
Everton hold further Jack Grealish talks
Everton have held ‘further talks’ with Manchester City winger Jack Grealish, as per The Times. The England international, who has 39 caps to his name, is facing an uncertain future at the Etihad Stadium. He has been linked with an exit before the end of the transfer window on Monday 1st September.
Grealish joined City in 2021 from boyhood club Aston Villa and has since been a useful player for Pep Guardiola’s side. However, they can’t guarantee him regular football anymore and he may well move on for his new challenge elsewhere. He has played 157 matches for his current club altogether and has found the net on 54 occasions.
The 3AM verdict: Jack Grealish would be an eye-catching addition for Everton if they managed to get him. He needs to leave Manchester City now to get some minutes somewhere else and he would be guaranteed game time with the Toffees. The Birmingham-born man would provide quality to their squad and would be an exciting acquisition. He is the sort of player that can get fans off their seats which is what David Moyes’ side.
Sunderland in discussions with Omar Alderete
Sky Sports claim Sunderland are ‘in discussions’ with Getafe centre-back Omar Alderete. The Black Cats have been busy on the recruitment front over recent times. They were promoted from the Championship in May after beating Sheffield United in the play-off final at Wembley.
Alderete moved over to Europe in 2019 to join FC Basel before spells at Hertha Berlin and Valencia. He moved to Estadio Coliseum in 2022 on an initial loan deal that was later made permanent. The defender has since become a key player and appears to be a wanted man now.
The 3AM verdict: Sunderland need to ensure that they get their recruitment right this summer to be prepared for the step up in quality to the Premier League. Omar Alderete is someone who is experienced at the top level in Spain but is untested in the top flight. Nevertheless, there is no reason why he wouldn’t be able to come over to England and make an impact.
