The cheeky West Ham and Nottingham Forest transfer swap deal that could see both sides bag an upgrade

West Ham look set to be one of the busiest Premier League clubs in the transfer market before the summer window slams shut

West Ham could do with adding some more bodies to their squad before the deadline on Monday. The Hammers have made a poor start to the new season. Pressure will start to intensify on manager Graham Potter if he can’t turn their fortunes around quick.

The London outfit turned to the former Swansea City, Brighton and Hove Albion and Chelsea man as their head coach during the last campaign. He was picked as their replacement for ex-Wolves man Julen Lopetegui. However, he has since struggled to make an impact and may start to feel the heat soon if things don’t change.

West Ham want Ibrahim Sangare from Nottingham Forest

West Ham have made a loan offer for Nottingham Forest midfielder Ibrahim Sangare, according to The Athletic. The Ivory Coast international, who has 47 caps to his name, has emerged on their radar as they hunt for reinforcements. He made the move over to England back in 2023.

Sangare, 27, would give the Hammers more competition and depth in the middle of the park if they snapped him up. He isn’t guaranteed regular minutes at the City Ground at this moment in time under the guidance of Nuno Espirito Santo. Therefore, an exit would help him get some game time.

His contract at Nottingham Forest expires in June 2028 meaning they are under no pressure to cash in on him anytime soon. The Reds forked out a hefty £30 million to snap him up two years ago. He has since made 36 appearances in all competitions for his current club, two of which have come in this campaign.

Sangare rose up through the ranks at Toulouse before breaking into their first-team as a youngster. PSV came calling in 2020 and he spent three years in Holland. He played 140 matches for the Eredivisie giants and scored 15 goals before he left for a new challenge.

West Ham should offer Nottingham Forest swap deal proposal

West Ham should consider offering Nottingham Forest a player in return for Sangare. That may help ease along negotiations and make their opponents more likely to accept their offer. With that in mind, Maxwel Cornet would be the ideal candidate to use in a potential swap deal.

Cornet, who like Sangare is an Ivory Coast international, has fallen out of favour with the Hammers. He is surplus to requirements and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him head out the exit door soon for a fresh start. A change of scene would him good and would help him get his career back on track.

West Ham snapped him up back in 2022 but his move to London hasn’t gone to plan. He has been loaned out to Southampton and Genoa since his switch. The ex-Metz and Lyon man was a hit during his spell at Burnley before the Hammers came calling and scored nine goals in 29 games for the Clarets under their ex-manager Sean Dyche.

He could be a smart pick-up by Nottingham Forest if they got him in return for Sangare. He would give them another option to pick from on the left hand side of the pitch. The Bregbo-born man can play left wing-back or as an attacking winger so his versatility is a useful attribute.

The Reds need as much depth in their squad as possible this term. They are gearing up for life in Europe and need to ensure that they have enough players to deal with the increased workload of games. Therefore, they may need to start thinking outside of the box with their recruitment and swap deals may well be ideal for them.
