Arsenal in pole position to sign dream Swedish transfer target as Man Utd prepare £50m push to sign ex-Everton ace
The latest transfer headlines as Arsenal and Man United aim to enhance their attacking options
Premier League heavyweights Arsenal are believed to be in pole position to finally get their hands on one of Europe’s most sought after strikers.
The Gunners failed to sign a striker in both the summer and January transfer window this season in a fatal blow which ultimately looks set to cost them the title with Liverpool taking a commanding lead in this year’s race for glory.
Mikel Arteta’s side were held to their third successive draw on the road when they faced Everton in what was a frustrating final visit to Goodison Park which encapsulated the club’s need to find a clinical striker.
Both Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz have come under fire for their lack of consistency in front of goal during the season but in recent weeks after the duos injury results have gone from bad to worse and any slim hope of a title seems to have taken a fatal blow due to the team’s lack of potency in the final third.
Arsenal in a ‘good place’ to sign dream striker target
TeamTalk understands that Arsenal have a ‘huge surplus’ in terms of finances and PSR to spend on a striker after failing to make a single signing during the winter window.
The outlet claims the Gunners are likely to use their budget on highly-rated Swedish international forward Viktor Gyokeres, who has enjoyed a sensational season for Sporting after scoring 43 goals in 43 appearances across all competitions for the capital side, with three of those notably coming in one game against 2023 Champions League winners Manchester City.
The 26-year-old has an overall record of 86 goals in 93 appearances for Sporting in 93 appearances while also contributing an impressive 26 assists and could be the ideal player to finally take Arsenal over the line in the title race after three failed attempts in recent years. TeamTalk adds that Gyokeres has a release clause of £83m inserted into his contract which could have been activated in January. However, reports from The Athletic now state a £59m fee could be enough to get a deal over the line.
The 3AM verdict: Arsenal are in desperate need of a striker if they are to finally get their hands on the Premier League title and Viktor Gyokeres' record suggests he could be the perfect star to take them to the next level.
Gyokeres is a big powerful forward with exceptional movement and great aerial ability which would enable him to thrive in Arsenal’s set piece deliveries which they specialise in. He’s also good at bringing others into the game, can score all kinds of goals and is immensely consistent. For £59m it seems a very fair price for what he’s capable of delivering for them.
Man Utd target £50m ex-Everton star
Caught Offside understands that Ademola Lookman is a top summer target for Manchester United as they begin their rebuild under Ruben Amorim. The Nigerian has enjoyed a stellar individual campaign for, which has seen him score 18 goals and contribute seven assists in 33 appearances for Atalanta - propelling the club into a surprise title push against the odds in the process.
Lookman won the Europa League last season with Gian Pier Gasperini’s team and notably scored a hat-trick against a previously unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen in the final.Caught Offside understands United have taken a huge interest in signing the 27-year-old and claims a figure of around £50m will be needed to get the deal over the line.
The 3AM verdict: Ademola Lookman’s career has come on leaps and bounds in Italy since his move to Atalanta and he looks to be an entirely different proposition to the player that flattered to deceive at both Fulham, Leicester and Everton earlier in his career.
Lookman is quick, creative, good with the ball at his feet and capable of making things happen. He plays best as a shadow striker or on the left wing and would prove a great replacement for someone like Alejandro Garnacho if he was to depart.
