Fernandes, Dorgu, Mainoo and more: Latest Man Utd injury news and expected return dates

The latest Manchester United injury news and return dates - with updates on Bruno Fernandes, Patrick Dorgu and more.

It’s been a bruising international break for Manchester United. Since the 1-1 draw with Fulham over a week ago, no fewer than six first-team players either withdrew from their countries’ squads or suffered injuries while away on international duty. There is justifiable concern over how many players could miss time when they all come back.

Patrick Dorgu became the latest player to pick up a worrying injury when he limped off during Denmark’s Nations League game against Wales, while Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, Marcus Rashford and Benjamin Šeško are among the other players to endure issues over the past week.

With concerns mounting, we’ve collected all of the latest Manchester United injury news below, along with the stricken players’ expected return dates when they’re available.

Dorgu & Fernandes among fresh Manchester United injury worries

Wing-back Patrick Dorgu has returned to Manchester after suffering a suspected hamstring injury during Denmark’s 2-0 win over Wales. The 21-year-old was forced from the field with 30 minutes on the clock and will now undergo further testing to determine the extent of the injury.

While the timeline for his return has yet to be established, even the best-case scenario would make him a major doubt for Manchester United’s next Premier League fixture against Tottenham Hotspur on 10 October, and there is the potential for a lengthier lay-off if the injury proves to be serious.

There is more promising news, at least, on the status of key playmaker Bruno Fernandes. The Portugal international was left out of his country’s squad to face Norway over the weekend after playing through what national team coach Jorge Jesus described as “an injury he brought from Manchester United” against Wales in their first Nations League match – but he could return for Portugal’s next fixture.

Jesus told the media that Fernandes was left out of the last game in order to “have him clean and in good physical condition for the Denmark game,” and he will remain with the squad. Details of the issue remain undisclosed, but it appears as though he will not spend a long time on the sidelines.

Updates on Mainoo, Rashford, Šeško and more after international withdrawals

While both Dorgu and Fernandes sustained or worsened injuries while on international duties, no fewer than four players were forced to withdraw from their national squads before a ball was kicked – including England pair Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford.

Rashford picked up a knock towards the end of the Fulham match and although he was able to finish the game, the decision was taken to rest him during the international break. He is expected to be fully fit in time to face Spurs. The picture is far less clear in Mainoo’s case – Manchester United have not provided a reason for his withdrawal from Thomas Tuchel’s squad and his status remains unknown.

Slovenian striker Benjamin Šeško, meanwhile, missed the Fulham match after a recurrence of the shin injury which he sustained against Liverpool last season and dropped out of international duty as a result. He will undergo further tests during the international break to determine what treatment plan he will face, and his return date remains unknown. There is a risk of another relatively lengthy lay-off.

Back-up goalkeeper Karl Darlow, meanwhile, also withdrew from Wales’ squad citing an unspecified injury – no details of the issue of its extent have been made public.

Among Manchester United’s long-term injury victims, both Amad Diallo (ankle) and Mattijs de Ligt (back) could return to full training in time to play against Spurs. Tom Heaton has a hamstring injury with an unknown return date, while midfielder Manuel Ugarte (knee) will be sidelined for most or all of the 2026/27 season.
