Elanga, Gonzalez and Ramsey: Newcastle United injury news update amid pre-international break crisis
The latest Newcastle United injury news ahead of the Magpies’ Premier League clash with Hull City
Newcastle United’s flying start to the 2026/27 Premier League season came to a jarring halt on Monday evening, as Matthias Jaissle’s side were thrashed 4-1 away to Leeds United at Elland Road. The hosts were three goals to the good by half-time, and while Newcastle improved in the second half, they were only able to grab a consolation goal in response to Leeds’ fourth of the night.

The Magpies will now look to dust themselves down and go again, as they begin preparations for this weekend’s visit of Hull City on Saturday afternoon. It’s been almost a decade since the two sides last met - a League Cup fixture in which the Tigers beat Newcastle on penalties to book their place in the semi-finals of the competition.
Ahead of Saturday’s eagerly anticipated clash at St. James’ Park, we’ve rounded up the latest Newcastle United injury news, as Jaissle faces the prospect of an unwanted injury pile-up in the treatment room before the three-week international break.
Newcastle United injury news update: Fresh Elanga and Ramsey concerns

There was surprise and concern when Anthony Elanga wasn’t named in the squad for Newcastle’s trip to Leeds. The ex-Nottingham Forest star has started the season in scintillating form, defying the critics of his 2025/26 campaign by scoring two goals in his first three matches.
Jaissle has now revealed that the player could be out for a considerable length of time, and will undergo an MRI scan next week to determine the extent of the injury. The nature of Elanga’s problem has not been disclosed, but it’s worth noting that MRI’s in sport are often used to check for potential muscle tears, tendon damage or serious knee injuries.
Jacob Ramsey pulled out of Newcastle’s clash against Leeds in the warm-up, after injuring his thigh. Jaissle suggested that the 25-year-old, who scored a vital late equalising goal in his side’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth earlier this month, won’t be able to participate against Hull, and will have to wait until after the international break to return.
Will Nico Gonzalez play against Hull City?

It’s bad news for Newcastle, with their star central midfielder highly likely to be ruled out of Hull’s visit on Saturday. He was a concussion substitute after just 19 minutes against Leeds after taking a shot directly to the face. Due to the FA’s strict concussion guidelines, Gonzalez’s recovery time will go beyond this weekend, with a six-stage process to go through first.
Meanwhile, Gonzalez’s fellow midfield star Joelinton will remain on the sidelines until after the international break, as he continues his recovery from a thigh injury. New club captain Dan Burn will also have to wait until next month to get back on the playing field, and it’s likely to be the same story for striker William Osula. The former has an injured ankle, while the latter has a foot problem.
There is some good news at least in terms of right-back sensation Amar Dedic. He shook off a hamstring injury to return for the Magpies against Leeds, and played 56 minutes before being replaced by Tino Livramento. Jaissle will be hopeful that both his right-back options make it through to the international break without an further injury setbacks.
