Livramento, Steur and Dedic: Newcastle injury news update and return dates with eleven stars now out

Newcastle United injury list and return dates ahead of the three-week international break

Newcastle United are heading into the international break on a high, after bouncing back from their hiding at Leeds United with a 2-1 Premier League win over Hull City. The result saw Mathias Jaissle’s side rise to 9th place in the division, with eight points from their opening five league matches.

The Magpies had a highly turbulent summer - while some changes were expected after a poor 2025/26 campaign, few expected the mass overhaul of playing staff and Eddie Howe’s sudden exit. Fresh players and a new manager arrived in Jaissle, who has become a popular figure with the Toon Army after proving himself to be a charismatic head coach.

All being considered, Newcastle won’t feel too disheartened with their slightly above average start to the campaign, in which they’ve also progressed to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. Ahead a three-week international break in which Magpies star Lewis Hall will look to battle for England’s left-back spot, we’ve got the latest Newcastle injury update and potential return dates.

Newcastle United injury list and return dates: Burn to Livramento

Club captain Dan Burn, who took the role from Bruno Guimaraes following his move to Arsenal, has had a less than ideal start to wearing the armband. The England international suffered an ankle in training and is yet to play a minute for the club this season. He should be back straight after the international break, however. Expected return date: 12th October vs Coventry City.

New striker signing Matias Fernandez-Pardo missed out on Hull City’s visit last weekend, with Jaissle making it clear that the player is struggling with fitness after a limited pre-season before his move to St. James’ Park. Given the threadbare squad at the manager’s disposal during the break, he is unlikely to have the chance to get minutes under his belt in a behind-closed doors friendly. Expected return date: 12th October vs Coventry City.

Tino Livramento was forced to withdraw from international duty with England due to an unspecified injury concern. He’s set to undergo an MRI scan to determine the extent of the problem. It will come as a real blow to both club and country, with the promising full-back only just back from a setback that saw him miss out on the 2026 World Cup. Expected return date: Unknown.

Newcastle United injury list and return dates: Ramsey to Osula

Jacob Ramsey scored a vital goal in Newcastle’s 2-2 home draw earlier this month, but saw his revival cut short after pulling up in the warm-up before their heavy loss to Leeds United. He’s dealing with a thigh problem, but the three-week break should give him sufficient time to complete his recovery. Expected return date: 12th October vs Coventry City.

Meanwhile, rising talent Sean Steur is also expected back swiftly after the international break, with his 66th minute substitution against Hull City believed to be enforced due to cramp. He is another player looking to build match fitness after a slow start to the campaign. Amar Dedic has a thigh injury, but is also expected back in the near future. Expected return dates: 12th October vs Coventry City.

There’s also some promising news for winger Anthony Elanga, who got the season off to a flying start by scoring against both Liverpool and Tottenham. He’s out with a hamstring injury, which initially looked like it could keep him out for up to two months. However, he’s said to be making good progress in his recovery, and could be back sooner than first thought. Expected return date: 25th October vs Crystal Palace.

Nico Gonzalez missed the visit of Hull due to concussion protocols. He took a powerful shot straight to the face during his side’s loss to Leeds which forced his manager into making a concussion substitute less than 20 minutes into the game. Like goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen, who has an ankle injury, he’ll be ready to go next month. Expected return dates: 12th October vs Coventry City.

There has been further cause for concern with both Brazil international Joelinton and Danish forward William Osula. The former is still recovering from a thigh injury, while the latter has a foot problem that has seen him unavailable since the Magpies’ dramatic season-opening draw with Liverpool. Expected return dates: 12th October vs Coventry City.
